Theory and Practical Assignments – Level 4

Note: You do not need to design your own learning materials/handouts for your Microteach.

Ground rules do not need to be demonstrated as part of the Microteach session

Theory Level 4

Practical Level 4

1. Review your role, responsibilities and boundaries as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle.

500 – 700 words

1. Produce a learning programme/scheme of work in your subject area, for a minimum of six sessions (the length of the session is to be agreed between yourself and your tutor).

2. Summarise the key aspects of current legislative requirements and codes of practice relevant to your subject and type of organisation within which you work.

250 – 350 words

2. Produce a 30 minutes session plan for your microteach.

Use form 1.4

3. Discuss issues of equality and diversity and ways to promote inclusion with your learners. Review other points of referral available to meet the potential needs of learners.

300 – 400 words

3. Deliver the session, identifying, adapting and using relevant approaches to engage and motivate learners, in relation to your specialist area. You need to communicate effectively with learners.

(total 30 minutes of delivery)

4. Analyse different ways in which you would establish ground rules with your learners, which underpin behaviour and respect for others.

250 – 350 words

4. Evaluate the teaching and learning approaches and effectiveness of resources, for your observed session. Evaluate how your session met the needs of individual learners.

250 – 450 words

5. Evaluate a range of  ways to embed elements of Functional Skills, in your specialist area.

300 – 400 words

5. Explain the different methods for giving feedback and demonstrate good practice in giving feedback to your peers. Complete a self-evaluation to reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of your own teaching and feedback methods.

250 – 450 words

6. Justify the need for keeping records and describe the types of records you would maintain.

400 – 600 words

6. Complete a learning journal after each assignment completed.

7. Review a range of different assessment methods available and explain the ones you would use for your subject area. Evaluate the use of assessment methods in different contexts, including reference to initial assessment. Justify the types of assessment records you would complete and explain why.

7. At the end of the programme complete a summative profile and action plan.
